For decades, the fast-evolving UK construction sector has had to find ways to overcome tired old stereotypes of the past. Here’s how Mediorite produce social impact videos which showcase the positive and help to set the story straight.

The construction sector is evolving.

According to a 2023 report by Scape, a record-breaking £1.1bn of construction projects drove social value in the UK in 2022.

The construction industry has transformed and evolved so quickly in recent decades. Sometimes it’s to do with adapting to new legislation, like the UK’s Building Safety Act of 2022, but lots of recent improvements in the industry have been led by proactive construction businesses.

Because Mediorite is a social enterprise and video production agency with plenty of experience in documenting the social value of the construction sector, we’re in a great position to see what works when it comes to breaking down those tired old stereotypes. Our construction videos, all commissioned by leading clients in the sector, have played a valuable role in shining a light on the positive social impact of construction in the UK.

"We had a great experience working with Mediorite. They guided us towards an end product that has been incredibly well received by all involved, most importantly the community organisation we were working with. Their work to support and develop young people and ability to tailor this to our clients' requirements was an added bonus!"

Social impact videos for construction – examples

Here are just some of the ways the construction companies we work with have used branded construction videos to spotlight social value and corporate social impact:

  • Celebrating volunteer or Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes (like Morgan Sindall’s NHC teams on their Neighbourhood Week volunteering initiative, or this collaboration with ISG and Havering Mind)
  • Highlighting new development and regeneration projects (like this development of Wellington Place, which created paid work experience for a local uni student)
  • Showing how the construction industry is giving back to local communities (like the Absolute Beginners art project for Balfour Beatty Vinci Sistra, using clay extracted from an HS2 site)
  • Schools outreach to inspire future generations (like the Beacon Programme of work experience, or the Wates ‘Thumbs Up’ HGV safety video for school students)
  • Promoting apprenticeship schemes which place a focus on strengths not experience, leading to greater diversity in candidates
  • Documenting inclusive company culture
  • Using social enterprises like Mediorite to provide additional (and measurable) social impact, since every video project provides paid work and accredited training for talented but under-represented young people.

At a time of economic uncertainty, it’s a real boost of positivity to see the construction sector coming together to drive social value delivery for the benefit of both local communities and economies.

It's a high quality professional corporate video but it’s not standard, it's relatable, current and it's relevant to a wide audience including school children who might do this programme somewhere else in the country. It really shows Wates in its true form and how we deliver social value!

How do our social impact videos dispel construction stereotypes?

The construction sector has been working hard for decades to bust outdated myths about construction worker stereotypes. Construction clients come to us for video production because they know we’ll ensure diversity both in front of the camera. Participants and crew have authentic diversity in terms of age, race, ethnicity, gender and socioeconomic status.

Our social impact videos help the construction industry with:

  • Raising awareness
  • Creating memborable authentic content
  • Creating dialogue
  • Putting diversity in the spotlight
  • Amplifying under-represented voices
  • Boosting impact and reach
  • Demonstrating social impact and social value by working with us as a social enterprise

We are proud to produce videos for construction clients who put a focus on social value.

Whether it’s relating to local communities or environmental concerns, the construction sector has had to fight hard to show how it’s giving back and making a positive difference to the environment.

How can your construction company showcase its impact?

Our social impact videos will help you tell your unique story in a compelling way.

Our team have created successful construction videos to connect with audiences for ISG and Wates as well as global corporates Royal Sun Alliance and a host of market leading charities. We specialise in creating professional yet authentic and relatable commercial videos that show how inclusive and progressive the construction sector is.
