WHY? THE FACTS ARE SHOCKING

According to the ONS the UK's jobless rate rose to 5.1% in the three months to December, with the number of people on company payrolls down 726,000 on pre-pandemic levels.

Almost three-fifths of these were younger than 25 years.

Not surprisingly The Princes Trust report highlights the "devasting toll" that covid-19 has had on the lives of 16-25 year olds and their mental wellbeing. Stating:

" 60% of young people say that getting a new job feels "impossible now" because there is so much competition "

And the news is worse if you are a person of colour - according to the TUC unemployment numbers for Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups (BAME) have increased at more than twice the speed of the rate for white workers, a new study shows. The Trades Union Congress (TUC) said: “This pandemic has held up a mirror to the structural racism in our labour market and wider society.”
