My video production work experience with Mediorite: Elle

Meeting clients and industry professionals through video production work experience

Our recent shoot for A J Gallagher saw us feature their Making A Difference charity winner Dandelion Time.

I worked with Sheila and Piotr that day and they were really lovely. Piotr showed me his way around the Canon E70 and his equipment, which I found educational, and Sheila’s directing style and communication with subjects during the interviews was great to watch.

Video production can mean going out in the field… literally

For most of the day we walked around the farm, shooting the children’s group activities. For this part I carried around a set light for a specific location that we never ended up shooting in… so funnily enough I was carrying this 3ft tripod and LED equipment we didn’t need, but I’m happy we had it just in case (it wasn’t heavy).

We had lunch afterwards with the organisers and their children, and it was really lovely to speak to some of them. Some of the members of Gallagher were there and it was interesting hearing about their social work, since they weren’t a company I had heard of before.

Exploring the technical and interview aspects of video production

After lunch, we started on the interview process. This point was when I felt a bit more handy because Piotr would ask me to get things for him. Some of the equipment I recognised, so I helped him set up some of the tripods, or the lighting, but staying out the way enough to let him work.

At one point, I had to find Lara Puttock (Dandelion Time, Family Therapy Organiser) to sign a contract for permission to be on camera since she did an interview as well as Sarah Millen (A J Gallagher). Watching the interview process was cool, especially Lara’s. She struggled to get into speaking to the camera at first, but once she knew what to say, her words were really moving, due to her subject matter and I’m excited to see the final result.

Wrapping was pretty simple. Trying to figure out how some of the equipment closed down was a fun puzzle, and putting all the equipment away into their designated bags was difficult, but eventually everything was in the car, and I found comfort in a cup of tea, after.

Would you recommend work experience with Mediorite?

All in all, a good day. I would love to work for Mediorite on any future projects.
